CIELO is a project co-financed by the European Commission ERASMUS+ program that seeks to increase the skills of teachers and students from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico in the field of health promotion in Latin America. in order to prevent childhood obesity and promote mental health.
To achieve this purpose, three European and nine Latin American HEIs are collaboratively developing an online postgraduate training program and an eToolkit mobile application. The construction of this innovative curriculum for Latin America consists of the following work phases:
It consists of mapping the current competencies, pedagogical needs, knowledge and best practices of students and teachers of HEIs, and of professionals in working life, to address the prevention of childhood obesity and the promotion of mental health. Likewise, it considers the review of literature and course content on these topics to form a theoretical framework.
The collection and analysis of this information will provide the theoretical foundation for the structure and content of the online graduate course.
This phase includes the development and evaluation of the contents of the online postgraduate course and the eToolkit mobile application, the digital platform for the course and the project’s educational material.
This stage includes the development of the functional and technical framework, the piloting and evaluation of the eToolkit mobile application that will allow working in an innovative and effective way in the prevention of childhood obesity and the promotion of mental health.
The dissemination and communication of CIELO events, activities and results is a set of strategic actions that includes the other phases and activities of the project.
One of the most important objectives of the project is to generate evidence of the relevance and excellence of the multidisciplinary continuous professional development program to propose public policies aimed at strengthening the health sector in terms of obesity prevention and mental health promotion. For this purpose, as part of the dissemination and communication efforts, the most relevant political actors in Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico will be contacted, and the main policy documents in each country will also be collected. The participation of political actors in the national and international events planned for the discussion of the project will be of vital importance for the realization and publication of a roadmap on obesity prevention.
At CIELO we collaborate with people from different professional fields and from different cultures.
These phases are carried out by six work packages, in which universities from Letonia, Finland, Poland, Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico collaborate to achieve an active and healthy childhood. The participating HEIs are:
Riga Technical University (Letonia), Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and The University of Gdańsk (Poland); Universidad Católica Silva Henríquez and Universidad Del Alba, from Chile; University for International Cooperation and Hispano-American University, of Costa Rica; and Universidad La Salle México, Universidad La Salle Noroeste, Universidad La Salle Oaxaca, Universidad La Salle Pachuca and Universidad La Salle Victoria, from Mexico.
The CIELO project will impact three main groups of beneficiaries from Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico:
Staff from the 9 HEIs participating in the project: teachers, researchers, administrative staff and managers.
Undergraduate students, postgraduate students and teachers from HEIs, professionals from health teams or related work life (educators, psychologists, etc.) interested in continuing education, and people interested in the topic of the obesity.
Children and their families
This project will utilize a broad group of partners willing to collaborate, such as healthcare organizations, health promotion organizations, public associations, schools, among others; It is also expected to generate an impact on these institutions.
